How to read the evidence

Research methods and limitations

Orange Nurse Facts presents independent contract research for nurses at St. Joseph Hospital Orange, with comparisons across Southern California.

Research reviewed .

What the research can show

The records describe published pay schedules, benefit provisions, representation history, and the agreements or summaries located for each hospital. Contract results at other hospitals do not guarantee a particular outcome at St. Joseph Orange.

Topics include staffing, break relief, differentials, healthcare, retirement, leave, education, safety, discipline, grievance and arbitration, subcontracting, job security, floating, and scheduling.

How sources are labeled

How pay figures differ

Across-the-board increases, wage-grid adjustments, experience steps, equity or market adjustments, bonuses, individual ranges, and average increases are distinct. The summaries retain each source’s measure and stated period.

Adding percentage-point raises and compounding consecutive raises give different totals. For example, two consecutive 5% base-pay increases produce 10.25% compounded growth. Nominal percentages do not account for starting wages, inflation, dues, or individual eligibility.

Compare the same measure over the same period whenever the evidence permits. Check the contract classification and experience step before applying a schedule to an individual nurse.

How benefits and bargaining units are handled

Evidence includes newly negotiated and retained provisions. A documented mention is not a score for benefit quality, proof that the provision was newly added, or confirmation that a historical provision still applies.

RN and professional units are distinguished from separate service, technical, clerical, and other non-RN units. A non-RN agreement must not be read as the RN contract for the same hospital.

Shared UC and Kaiser agreements may cover several hospitals. The hospital pages retain the appropriate site context and the public-access limitations of local versus national terms.

Source priority

Use the agreed nursing CBA, applicable MOU, amendments, and wage appendices first. Official ratification flyers remain useful quick guides. Journal and news accounts are labeled secondary; they do not become the agreement when full text is missing. A source for another bargaining unit is not a substitute for the RN agreement.

The current UCnet file is published as the complete ratified agreement despite its draft-like filename. Its Appendix A hourly wage tables remain pending; Article 40 supports the scheduled percentage increases.

Page citations and archived documents

Each historical entry displays the page citation recorded in the research. Where a citation expressly says “printed,” its numbering may differ from a PDF viewer’s physical page count. Source links lead to downloaded evidence and, where available, the official web source.

Original PDFs and cited research memos remain available. OCR-derived findings and independent review are identified where applicable.

Election information and updates

The dashboard’s Orange election material cites the official NLRB notice and case record. The research date is shown explicitly; election details and subsequent case developments should be checked against the current official record.
